Media ownership, production, management, in its entirety is very much controlled by males. Females have not made much progress as media owners, and producers, where mainstream media is concerned. Although we live in a country where such a thing as a female owning a production company, directing a film, or owning her own network, should not be a thing far from reality the truth lies far from that. This domination of media is not predominant in only the United States, but many areas globally.
In Saudi Arabia a group of women have not only challenged social norms, but have proved that women can and do make an impact on media. Eggdancer Productions is a production company owned and Managed by females. This is an extreme feat in a country such as Saudi Arabia where men are the almost always the owners to any company, let alone a media enterprise. The two women in charge, Dania Nassief and Danya M. Alhamrani, were granted special permission by the government to run the company without the presence of a male manager.
The goal of the company is to present tell stories not in the way that they always have been about the culture and the country of where they reside, but to present a fresh and relatable perspective. They also hope to use their media to affect social change.
With their company, the women hope to and achieve essentially what is a different narrative of the country, culture, and life of where they live. Their ability to present a point of view never seen before through their media sets them apart, from the male dominated industries. Not only are they affecting the logistics of media ownership, but they are presenting a new view which probably has never been before seen or heard.
